Types of Solar Systems in Pakistan
There are three main types of solar systems in Pakistan: on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid systems. Their details are given below:
1. On-Grid Solar System:
It is connected directly to the national electricity grid, like WAPDA. You can sell excess electricity back to the WAPDA through net metering. This will decrease your electricity bills. Its average price is PKR 350,000 to PKR 2,600,000.
✅ Advantages:
- Lower installation cost (no batteries required).
- Reduces electricity bills with net metering.
- Efficient and easy to maintain.
❌ Disadvantages:
- Does not work during load shedding.
- Requires a stable grid connection.
2. Off-Grid Solar System:
It works independently and does not rely on the national grid. All the energy is stored in the batteries. Unlike on-grid solar systems, it has power availability and works even during load shedding. The average price for these solar systems is PKR 500,000 to PKR 3,800,000.
✅ Advantages:
- Works in areas without electricity.
- Provides power even during load shedding.
- Ideal for rural locations and backup power.
❌ Disadvantages:
- More expensive due to battery costs.
- Batteries require maintenance and replacement over time.
3. Hybrid Solar System:
It consists of features of both on-grid and off-grid solar systems. It stays connected to the grid and uses batteries to store extra energy. Like off-grid, it also has power availability even during load shedding. It has the maximum energy efficiency. The average price range is PKR 450,000 to PKR 4,000,000.
✅ Advantages:
- Works during load shedding.
- Reduces electricity bills with net metering.
- Offers energy storage for nighttime use.
❌ Disadvantages:
- Higher initial cost due to batteries.
- Requires advanced technology for installation and maintenance.
Benefits of Investing in Solar Systems
Solar systems have plenty of advantages. Some of them are written below:
- Cost savings: Electricity is very expensive in Pakistan. Therefore, you can install solar systems and generate your own electricity. This will help in saving your monthly bills.
- Environmental Impact: Solar systems cause no harm to the environment. Instead, it gives benefit to the environment. This is because solar energy reduces the use of fossil fuels, which are the main cause of global warming.
- Energy Independence: You can install solar systems without depending on other sources. Like, it does not matter if you are living in a village or a mountain; you can install it anywhere anytime. You don’t need any dependence.
Factors Influencing Solar System Price in Pakistan
There are several factors that affect the price of solar systems in Pakistan. Some of them are given below:
- Type of Solar Panels: Highly efficient solar panels are more expensive. Hence, solar system prices will be higher.
- Inverter Quality: Inverters convert the direct current (DC) that is produced by solar plates into alternating current (AC), which is then used by household appliances. If the inverter is of high quality, it will convert the energy more efficiently.
- Mounting Structures: Solar systems should be designed and structured in such a way that they can stay stable and long-lasting. The better the structures, the greater will be the cost.
- Installation Services: Professionals will charge high for the installation of the solar system. They ensure the efficiency and durability of their work.
